I've been eyeing the online coverage of the National Stationery Show (NSS) like a hawk. I can't get enough of the booth pictures and first person accounts of show traffic and sales. As I mentioned in the post below, I've been thinking alot about whether the wholesale model of business makes sense for a business where everything is made by hand. What I can't do in volume I hope I make up for in personality and originality. But trade shows are all about volume. Why go if you can't fulfill an order for several thousand cards from a national retailer? By most accounts, traffic was down this year. Partly a result of the economy for sure, but I think also a result of the market getting saturated (birds! letterpress! wedding albums!) and maybe retailers and customers are looking for something else, somewhere else (online?). I'm not sure, but I'm so grateful for the following bloggers who shared their experience at the show. Company name links to their NSS post.
Emily Gallardo - my bud in the 46 Waltham St studios
Linda and Harriett - one of my regular stationery blog reads
Susy Jack
A roundup of links from Indie Fixx
Pink Loves Brown - I love how she set up her booth
Avie Designs - another regular read, she's come a long way in the past year
The Scoop
via Papercrave: Design Sponge NSS recap
Hammocks and High Tea
Ms Bliss and Crane Insider are corporate blogs from Crane. Interesting to see the NSS show from the perspective of a large company.
I know there are alot more I'm missing. Please add a link in the comments if you blogged about your experience at the show.
